The Ups and Downs of Self talk

Research claims that over 70% of self talk is negative. Self talk is a common destroyer of self esteem, self confidence and self respect in our population today. However, if self-talk is controlled it can be the greatest builder of self-esteem, self respect and self confidence.

Think about how often you are engaged in self talk. What are you saying to yourself? Are you even aware of what you are saying to yourself? Is it negative or is it positive? Most people are not even aware of their self talk and the effects it can have! That is the problem.

Henry Ford said it best - Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you are absolutely right.

Your self talk will make you, or break you. In most cases it breaks you, if you do not become aware of your self talk and start to take control over it.

Your self talk can be positive when all is going well and you are busy doing something you enjoy. However, when thing are not going well - when you just failed, were rejected or being idle, your self talk goes automatically into negativity. This is the time when you need to be aware of what you are saying.

What you say to yourself in your conscious state, aware of it or not, will end up going into your subconscious mind. Only in your conscious state can you accept or reject. If you are not aware of what you are saying, and if you add emotions to it, it will happen!

Here is how it works. Whatever your self talk is will end up in your subconscious mind, whether you are aware of what you are saying or not. Your subconscious mind works with the laws to nature to attract circumstances into your life to make that thought, behind the self talk, a reality.

If you are not aware of what you are saying, it can be devastating to your self esteem, self respect and self confidence. Look at the lack of these self needs in most of our population. Most people don’t even have the courage they had when they were kids. They don’t even try because of the fear of failure.

Who created that fear? Was it self talk? Was it because every time you failed, or were rejected you beat yourself up through self talk?

Think about it, you have been your greatest enemy. You have let the outside world come inside. Through your self talk, you have created your own beliefs, your own fears and your own limitations.

The Bottom Line – You are the most important person in the world. Show respect for yourself. Be aware in your conscious state of what you allow into your mind. Reject negative self talk and thoughts. Listen and be aware of what you are saying.

Take control of your self talk and make it positive, or else live with the alternative, as you may have already experienced in the past. Only you have made you who your are - you self talked your way into it. It is not too late to make you who you want to be. Surely, you can self talk your way into that too!
